I feel like I been watching a lotta Horror films in the past few years.  To me theyre more than just being scary, they can have the qualities that stories from any other genres have: Likeable characters, impressive struggles, funny moments, tragedy and drama, etc etc.  So, based on that, here are my favorite horror films so far:

Trick r Treat A terrific modern anthology, with cool creative stories, interwoven together quite well.  From an arcane, child-like enforcer of holiday rules, to werewolf women transforming by peeling off their skin, to a neighborhood father of pure evil.

Demon Knight A film by Tales from the Crypt, their only one I think.  Has a terrific balance of scares, laughs and emotions.  Complete with a cool fun villain, kickass black heroine, and a holy weapon originating with Jesus Christ himself.

Youre Next A story of psycho killers attacking a family turning out to be an inheretence plot by two of the family.  Complete with a kickass heroine who enbds up killing more people in more brutal fashion than any one of the antagonists.  Every single person dies as well.

The Mummy An Action horror film I grew up with, and am very fond of, lots of badass and funny, lines.  An invincible enemy with crazy cool abilities.  An amusing weenie of a villain's sidekick.  Whats not to love?

Night of the Living Dead Iconic film that established tons of zombie conventions used forever more.  Shambling undead monsters unfeeling to all but their hunger movie on, eating their victims.  Their affliction spreading like a disease, bringing even a girl to stab her own mother.  Also brings on the humans are the real monsters theme, and has a kickass black protagonist.

VHS 2 Found Footage, a genre oversaturated with stories about annoying idiots killed off by an invisible menace.  But the VHS movies gives us anthologies give us fresh creative unusual new stories.

Carnival of Souls A ghost who didn't realize she was dead type story, possibly the first.  Nice and atmospheric and creepy. Helped inspire The Night of The Living Dead.

CreepShow A classic horror anthology told in the style of old comic books, it manages to get in five awesome, creative stories.  Great effects and acting, ranges from humorous to emotional

Pet Semetary A deeply tragic emotional horror story that found new ways to make zombies scary and disconcerting.

Evil Dead2 Not as scary as the first one, but no slouch either.  Delivers on the thrills and laughs with one of the most iconic, kickass horror protagonists ever.
